The Mentor
The mentor is a very popular trope. Almost every fantasy series has a mentor. Usually, it’s an older – let’s face it, white man. Yes, I am looking at you Dumbledor.
The sad truth is that there aren’t many books out there that have a woman or a person of color in the role as the Mentor. I’m not saying there are none, but it is the very small majority. One series that does come to mind is the Arc of the Scythe, but while there was a female mentor, there was also a male one.
