Tip Tuesday: Starting a Bookstagram

Let me Preface this by saying I am not an expert here.  Just sharing some of my experiences starting an Instagram.  Please feel free to check out my feed and message me anytime.

I wanted to talk a little but about starting a bookstagram account.  I know when I first started out I say all the beautiful and elaborate pictures that people were posting and I was a little nervous about getting started.  Below is my first post, other than the flowers which I got at the dollar store, I had everything else.

As you can see you do not need a lot to take a lot in fact, you only really need three things to start a bookstagram account.

An Instagram account – you need to sign up for an Instagram account which means you need to come up with a screen name.  This could be anything you’d I would suggest something easy, and not too long.  Mine is a bit on the long side, @allthebooksandchocolate, but it is easy to remember.  While you certainly don’t have to, something that has to do with books or a particular book give you a little credibility.

A camera – When I started out I was using a Nikon DSLR, not because it took better pictures, but because I wanted to practice using it.  I’ve since changed to using my iPhone, I just got the newest one and honestly it takes better pictures than my Nikon.  My point is that your phone will work just fine if that’s all you have.

Books – this one seems obvious, but maybe you don’t own a lot of books.  No problem.  I have found two ways around this, this first is getting from the library.  I still get about a quarter of my books for photos and reading from the Library and it is a great resource. The other is photographing ebooks.  This is a great and inexpensive way to take bookstagram pictures.  @PaperFury has a wonderful tutorial on how to do this that I have used myself several times!

I hope that for those of you just starting out or maybe even those of you who are’t I’ve given you some decent tips.
