Review: Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

As I said, I really enjoyed the character of Stevie, but she wasn’t the only one.  The whole cast of characters was great.  I liked that they all seemed to be real and fit into a school like the one in Truly Devious. And Nate is just the best!

The mystery itself was very interesting.  I liked that there were two, it reminded me a lot of Veronica Mars (one of my favorite shows), where there is an overarching mystery, and then a mystery solved in one book.  I did find the overarching mystery more interesting that one solved in the book, but that’s usually the way these things work.  The mysteries were somewhat unpredictable, though suspects in both were limited.  Of course, other than the actual mystery, there are some very unpredictable events, that I loved!

This book is original thanks to the setting and the characters.  Yes, it’s a teen mystery, but there is something different, unlike other books I have read in this genre.  It seems more adult somehow.

Overall Rating: 4

Bottom Line

If you like mysteries with quirky characters, then this is the book for you.  It’s entertaining and I CANNOT wait to read the next one.
